CAN PREGNANT WOMEN WEAR EYELASH EXTENSIONS?

Being a mom can be a very hard job, especially in the first few months. There are a lot of things you need to consider when it comes to your health and the health of your baby, and there are a lot of things you may have to give up.

But does that mean we have to give up on enjoying ourselves?

Will you have to say goodbye to beautiful eyelash extensions for the next nine months?

Not necessarily.

Consult your eyelash extension technician to learn about potential dangers and work together to find pregnancy-safe solutions.

Potential risks of having eyelash extensions while pregnant.

Sensitivity to chemicals

During pregnancy, women should avoid harsh chemicals, which in the eyelash industry are the most common in the adhesives we use. The effects of eyelash extension adhesives on pregnancy have not yet been researched. The eyelash extension industry is still young. If you prefer to play it safe, it may be best to forgo your eyelash extension appointments until after your newborn is born.

Adhesive allergy

Expectant mothers are limited in the type of medications they can take when something happens, as these medications can potentially harm the baby. If you are pregnant but have had eyelash extensions in the past without any issues, you will likely be able to continue getting eyelash extensions without the risk of an allergy to the glue.

If you're a first-time mom, and a first-time eyelash extension client, you may want to reconsider. If you end up developing a glue allergy, it's going to be a lot harder to deal with, and we all know you don't need any more uncomfortable situations than you're already dealing with as a pregnant person.

Lying down too long

After 20 weeks of pregnancy, you should avoid lying on your back for too long. Eyelash extensions can take more than two hours in one session, which is far too dangerous and uncomfortable for an expectant mother.

If you really need a gorgeous set of lashes late in your pregnancy, consult your lash technician to see if you can lie on your side for the application.

Guidelines for Lash Artists

As a Lash Artist, your priority is the safety and comfort of the client. This is especially true when it comes to pregnant clients who want to book an appointment.

To guide your future clients, be sure to do the following:

  • Explain in detail all  potential risks.
  • Have the client sign a waiver form, particularly regarding the use of chemicals in the process.
  • Always run a patch test
  • Use a medical grade adhesive such as Star Lashes World No1 Adhesive.
  • Use only fresh eyelash adhesives. Never use an adhesive that is past its expiration date.
  • Give them plenty of breaks during the appointment
  • Introduce alternative options to eyelash extensions like eyelash growth serum, false eyelash strips or other…

If you are a lash artist who is pregnant, be sure to wear a high coverage mask such as the N95 to protect yourself from exposure to adhesive fumes.

Other tips for pregnant Lash Artists to avoid adhesive exposure:

  • It is better to keep a jade stone on the side of the customers' head rather than using a ring.
  • Work in a well-ventilated area
  • Dispose of the used glue palette in a metal pedal bin with a lid.

New moms are allowed to continue to indulge in whatever way they feel is best and safest for them. Your job as a Lash Artist is to help them understand the risks of getting eyelash extensions and provide them with safe and comfortable options if they choose to move forward.

If you're pregnant and want to have fabulous lashes for that first selfie with your new baby, be sure to do your research first and talk to your Lash Artist about your options.
